Our History

To those who come through our doors, Haven on the Queensway offers an atmosphere of respect, dignity, and security as we help people on their way to becoming more self-sufficient.

For many people, hope starts here....

At one time, our building was a popular Gentlemen’s Club, but in 2007 it was purchased, renovated, and reopened as Haven on the Queensway to serve the community in a much healthier manner. Today, the Haven’s team of dedicated staff, sacrifical volunteers, and strong support system of advisory members and community businesses all collaborate to fight poverty, hunger, homelessness and hopelessness on the front-lines with solid supporting programs to back up and enhance their initial emergency relief assistance.

The Haven is located in the south Etobicoke community of Toronto. However our programs reach into the heart of Toronto and the surrounding GTA. Our programs cover from prenatal in our First Care program to seniors through our Helping Hands program, homelessness through our Hope with Wheels program and new immigrants through our Lakeside Dinner and referral services. Anyone who is in a crisis situation is welcome to receive help.

In 2014, the Haven helped over 4,000 children alone through our Food Bank and Clothing Boutique.

The Haven has recently been honoured for these efforts by receiving the 2014 Prime Minister’s Volunteer Award and Medal in the “Social Innovator – Organization category as presented in person by Prime Minister Stephen Harper in March of 2015.

OUR PARTNERSHIPS

Haven on the Queensway has developed many partnerships with community organizations and churches who have come alongside the Haven to provide relief to people in crisis situations. Daily Bread Food Bank is one partner who delivers over one ton of food to the Haven every Tuesday. This link is vital to our organization, as we feed approximately 350 individuals (120 families) per week. The Haven also partners with Youth Unlimited to create a rehab program specifically designed for individuals who want to leave the sex trade.
